The Cantonment Board has begun fixing sea-shaped dustbins on the Sea View beach in Karachi to raise awareness among people about keeping the Clifton beach clean.
On Tuesday, CBC correspondent Amir Arab Sama told Digital that the steps were taken to clean the coast and create awareness among the people.
"The goal of setting up an animal-shaped dustbin in the sea was to raise awareness among the public that the garbage on the shoreline would harm marine animals," he said.
The CBC official said the administration has fixed nine dustbins for fish, octopus and turtle designs.
These dustbins have been installed at various locations from McDonald's to Sea View, he added, adding that five more receptacles will be installed on the beach.
The Arabs say that the receptions were designed by Hassan Anwar, head of CBC's horticulture department at the CBC workshop.
He said ship paint and fishing nets were used to make this dustbin. The CBC official said they cost Tk 10,000 to Tk 15,000 for a single accommodation.
"The prices of these dustbins can vary depending on their size," said Arab. "Fish, turtle and octopus designs were selected by the CBC administration in sizes 2 2 5 feet, 4 × 8 feet and 10 × 15 feet."
He said the CBC administration is also planning to set the lights on these receptions to make them visible at night.
