KP Students Using IP Drugs At Party: Psychiatrists

A Peshawar psychiatrist said on Tuesday that students from elite schools and colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were using ice drugs publicly in their groups.

Peshawar-based psychiatrist. Khalid Mufti told TV on Monday, "Schoolgirls, college students, elite schoolchildren are using ice in their parties publicly."

"Even the snow-laden policemen came to us ... They use ice too."

Ice or crystal meth, as it is called in the street, is methamphetamine in crystalline form. Methamphetamine is a stimulant drug that comes in the form of white, bitter powder or a pill.

Ice can be swallowed, snorted, smoked or injected. It is usually smoked using glass pipes or injected.

"It's easily available ... it's available in different places. It's not too expensive here, "an ice user told Sama TV.

KP Information Minister Shawkat Yousafzai said his government was taking steps to curb the use of ice drugs.

"There was no law before," he said. "Police were arresting people but there was no law in custody."

The minister said they have enacted a law and it will be introduced soon
