Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhter on Tuesday urged the people of Karachi to launch a civil disobedience movement against the Sindh government.
Talking to the media, Akhtar urged the people not to tax the provincial government, unless the revenue collected from Megapolis was spent on it.
He also called on the federal government to take over the city.
"Karachi pays 25.5 billion," the mayor said, "would you not pay anything in return?"
Sindh government spokesman Murtaza Wahab has strongly condemned the mayor's statement.
"Such statements would not have worked in Karachi in the past and today they will not," he said, calling the mayor's press talk 'shameful'.
Wahab demanded Akhtar to confess his mistake and apologize to the Karachiis.
