Pakistan plans to take Kashmir issue to ICJ: PM's aide

A special aide of Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Tuesday that Pakistan is planning to bring the Kashmir issue to the international court.

"We are taking the Kashmiri fight to the international forum," said Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on information.

Awan says the Prime Minister will address the UN General Assembly on September 27. He is hopeful that the Indian Prime Minister will address UNGA on September 26.

New Delhi ends August 5, a special constitutional position in India-occupied Kashmir, where a five-year-old uprising against Indian rule has killed thousands, mostly civilians.

August 7, UNSC holds its first meeting on Kashmir in nearly half a century.

"The [Security Council members] have expressed serious concern over the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir," Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations Zhang Jun said after the meeting. "They are also concerned about the human rights situation there."

June said that UNSC members felt that any unilateral action should be taken against Pakistan and India, which could further aggravate tensions.

Commenting on the silence of the Muslim world about Kashmir, Awan said, “The hearts of the Muslim countries have defeated us, but their business interests are elsewhere.

"They have invested billions of dollars in India," he added.
